Three Rebels on ‘Players to Watch’ list for 2021 NHL Draft

Three members of the Red Deer Rebels are on the early radar for the 2021 NHL Draft.

Centre Jayden Grubbe and defencemen Kyle Masters and Christoffer Sedoff are included in NHL Central Scouting’s preliminary ‘Players to Watch’ list for next year’s draft.

Each player received a ‘C’ grade as a potential fourth, fifth or sixth round selection.

Grubbe, 17, stands six-foot-two and weighs 192 pounds. He recorded six goals and 29 assists in 57 games in his rookie season with the Rebels. The Calgary native also played for Canada at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge and had two goals and an assist in five games.

Masters, 17, missed the bulk of his WHL rookie season due to a lower-body injury he suffered at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge. The five-foot-11, 155-pound blueliner ended up playing 24 games with the Rebels and posted two goals and three assists.

Both Grubbe and Masters won bronze with Team Alberta at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer.

Sedoff, 18, is draft eligible for a second time after being passed over at the 2020 NHL Draft earlier this month. In his first season of North American hockey with the Rebels in 2019-20, the six-foot-one, 190-pound blue liner from Finland had 19 points and 40 penalty minutes in 61 games played.

A date for the 2021 NHL Draft has yet to be determined.
