Cammie Laird sworn in as new Reeve for Clearwater County

Oct 28, 2020 | 9:08 AM

Cammie Laird is the new Clearwater County Reeve after being sworn in during an organizational meeting on Tuesday.

County CAO Rick Emmons started the meeting off by calling for nominations from council on who they believe should be the new Reeve.

Former Reeve Timothy Hoven nominated Councillor Michelle Swanson as Reeve, who declined.

Councillor Theresa Laing nominated Councillor John Vandermeer, stating her appreciation of his extensive contribution towards economic growth and his tireless work in bringing broadband to the county.

Vandermeer mentioned that his reason for wanting to be Reeve was the county had “unfinished business” and that they are finally starting to make headway in the areas that Councillor Laing had noted.

Laird expressed that she wanted to let her name stand.

“It could be said that leaders have the confidence to stand alone. The compassion to listen to each other, and the courage to make the tough decisions,” she said. “I can assure you I’ve have had the privilege to work with a team that demonstrates that. It would be my privilege to offer my services to this team as your Reeve.”

She was voted in by her peers to serve as Reeve for the next year and that Vandermeer would be the county’s new Deputy Reeve.
