Music video about life in Sylvan Lake goes viral

A music video created for the Sylvan Lake Chamber of Commerce’s annual business awards is producing an endless supply of smiling faces after going viral.

The video features the voice and guitar of Isiah Williams, who wrote ‘Everyday’s a Holiday (in Sylvan Lake).’ It was all shot, featuring local residents, businesses and even the mayor earlier this fall.

Once shown at the awards, the Chamber put it on Facebook where it’s garnered over 1,500 shares since Oct. 18.

“It’s been humbling to see the reaction to the song and video so far, especially considering the times,” says Williams, who shares that singing has just been a hobby for him to this point. “As a performer or artist, your hope is that what you create will resonate with people. So I’m honoured to know people are finding some joy in it or whatever else.”

The 24-year-old Lindsay Thurber grad adds that it’s easy to forget what art is for.

“Art is there to make you laugh, smile and get you through when times are tough,” he says. “You have to take it where you can get it, because there’s not a whole lot of joy or simple pleasures in the world right now.”

Williams and his father Michael run IQ Entertainment, which produced the video with help from Flying Goose Media. Denise Bryan-Williams, executive director at the Chamber, and Isiah’s stepmom, says they have many reasons to be proud of the end result.

“I had mentioned in passing a few months ago how great it would be for Sylvan Lake to have its own song. Within a few weeks, Isiah came back with a demo and we were totally blown away by how good it was,” she recalls. “One of the things I’m most proud of is that everything we did was produced right here in Sylvan Lake! I’m pleased we could utilize local Sylvan Lake businesses to help us bring the project to life.”

“The first time I heard it, I teared up,” she adds.

Williams says it’s only available on YouTube and Facebook right now, but they hope to make the audio track available elsewhere in the near future.
