United Way Central Alberta and NOVA Chemicals celebrate $10M milestone

Oct 21, 2020 | 9:43 AM

United Way Central Alberta (UWCA) is celebrating a major milestone with one of its biggest long-time supporters as NOVA Chemicals has now donated more than $10,000,000 to the organization.

NOVA Chemicals held their first campaign in 1995 at their Joffre Site, raising just over $45,000.

With United Way Central Alberta designated as NOVA’s charity of choice, NOVA Chemicals has matched the contributions made by their employee and retirees.

In 1999, NOVA introduced the United Way Day of Caring™ Program to their employees, who have since contributed nearly 25,000 hours of physical labour and expertise to dozens of local agencies.

“While the time, effort, dedication and passion of our employee volunteers could never be truly reflected in a number, I applaud this $10M achievement. Thank you for all you are doing to make Central Alberta strong,” said Mark Hodson, NOVA Chemicals Joffre Site Leader.

“We take pride in our employee commitment to the United Way Central Alberta. Reaching the $10M milestone over the past 25 years is a testimonial of their commitment and NOVA Chemicals’ support to build strong communities where we work and live.” said Jim Dixon, Chair of the 2020 NOVA United Way Campaign.”

“This achievement is not only impressive in terms of dollars raised, but also by the number of lives that have been impacted by NOVA’s 25 years of support.” said Brett Speight, UWCA CEO. “We are thankful to be considered worthy of NOVA’s amazing support. We are truly thankful NOVA has embraced United Way Central Alberta for the past 25 years. As a socially responsible neighbour, NOVA Chemicals and its employees have impacted the lives of over 300,000 Central Albertans. Congratulations and be proud of your achievement.”

The NOVA Chemicals United Way Campaign for 2020 continues until the end of December.
