Town and County in support of Clearwater FCSS move

Oct 16, 2020 | 5:26 PM

The Town of Rocky Mountain House and Clearwater County are in full support of the Clearwater Regional Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) move from the Christenson Sports and Wellness Centre to the Posthouse building.

Both municipalities have agreed on providing their proportionate share of the renovation costs, which would be $7,076 from the Town and $12,342 from the County.

FCSS will now be approaching the Village of Caroline for their support as well ($582).

$20,000 is what has been estimated for the cost of updating the Posthouse building with IT and phone system upgrades, new paint, new carpet, and the hiring of contractors to replace flooring and other general renovations.

FCSS Manager Andrea Vassallo says the move will be to make it easier for the public to find them, and the new building will be a hub for several social service agencies.

She says the new location will also be more easily accessible from the street and would be located near many other agencies that help those in vulnerable positions such as the Lord’s Food Bank, Âsokêwin Friendship Centre, and the Rocky Public Library.

Vassallo did mention one of the biggest downsides would be the added cost of around $14,000.

To help offset the cost, FCSS is looking to rent out some of the spare rooms in the building, with Vassallo saying three agencies have expressed interest in doing.

Clearwater County Councillor Jim Duncan commented that he realizes that it would add costs to the County, but said that he was favourable of the benefits it would have for the community.

The Posthouse building is located adjacent to the Town of Rocky Mountain House office on 50 Avenue between 51 and 52 Street.
