Man killed in three-vehicle crash near Rocky Mountain House

A man is dead after a three-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon near Rocky Mountain House.

It was just before 4 p.m. when RCMP responded to a 911 call about the collision at the intersection of Highway 22 and Echo Canyon Drive, north of town.

Police say a northbound pick-up truck on Highway 22 had stopped to turn on to Echo Canyon Drive when it was hit by another northbound pick-up truck. The first truck was then struck by a tractor-trailer unit headed southbound.

The 34-year-old male driver of the first pick-up truck died at the scene. The 24-year-old male driver of the second one was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the tractor trailer unit was not injured.

Traffic was diverted on the highway for several hours while the RCMP examined the collision scene.
