408 Tactical Helicopter Squadron training near Ram Falls

Residents and visitors of west-central Alberta may observe military training if they look skyward between Oct. 15-17.

408 Tactical Helicopter Squadron (408 THS) is conducting mountain flying training near Ram Falls and in the surrounding area.

The public can expect to see three CH-146 Griffon helicopters operating from the Ram Falls air strip, flying as far north as Nordegg, south as Sundre, just west of Rocky Mountain House, and into British Columbia’s Donald area.

About 30 members of the squadron will be accompanied by four military-patterned vehicles travelling by road. No firearms will be used.

408 THS is scheduled to be in the area beginning at 5 p.m. on October 15 and leave the area by 2 p.m. on October 17.

This comes after the squadron did training in the same area in June, July and August.

“Members of the public can rest assured that COVID-19 mitigation measures are respected during exercise GRIZZLY GANDER,” a media release states. “The Squadron appreciate the support of the people of Alberta as they continue to train to support Canadians’ needs domestically and abroad.”

408 Tactical Helicopter Squadron is co-located with 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group at the 3^rd Canadian Division Support Base, Edmonton. Equipped with CH-146 Griffons, the squadron’s primary role is tactical aviation support to the Canadian Army and other government departments.
