Alberta conducts record high number of tests as active cases rise

Active case numbers of COVID-19 in Alberta continued their rise on Friday.

The province is reporting 277 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, with active cases rising by 128 to 2,225. The bulk of new active cases are in Edmonton Zone, which saw an increase of 78 to a record high of 1,329.

In Calgary Zone, there are 628 active cases, up by 24.

Closer to home in Central Zone, there are now 50 active cases, up 11 from Thursday, and up 20 from Wednesday.

Red Deer now has 10 active cases, up by three in the last day, and up seven since Tuesday.

The province also recorded one new death in the past 24 hours attributed to COVID-19, however the province retracted two previously reported coronavirus-related deaths, taking the provincial total from 283 to 282.

As well in the last 24 hours, the province conducted a record number of tests, completing 25,383. The previous high was on Sept. 12 when 18,920 tests were done. A total of 1,110,134 individual Albertans have been tested for COVID-19.

Lacombe County: 2 active, 26 recovered

Red Deer County: 2 active, 31 recovered
