Catholic schools take part in Terry Fox Run

Sep 25, 2020 | 11:10 AM

Every September, many students and staff from across the division run to support Terry Fox by promoting health and wellness through physical activity.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope. Many school communities are raising money for the Terry Fox Foundation by bringing a “Tonnie for Terry” and running around the school grounds.

With COVID-19, this school year looks a bit different. Schools will still join as a community. However, students will run in their cohorts at staggered times throughout the day.

Participating in Terry Fox Runs gives students the opportunity to learn about physical activity and justice.

“École Camille J. Lerouge School participates annually in the Terry Fox Fun, as a way of keeping his memory alive and also as a way to promote physical activity with our students. Each year students are invited to bring in a “Toonie for Terry” which is donated directly to the Terry Fox Foundation. This year all students from Pre- Kindergarten to Grade 9 ran outside and on the trail system in lieu of participating in the Dawe Run. With the sun shining down on us, it was an awesome day for everyone,” said Principal Sinead Armstrong at École Camille J. Lerouge School.
