Active cases of COVID-19 down another 65 provincially

Alberta is reporting 153 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, bringing total cases in the province since March 5 to 17,343.

Active cases are down another 65 to 1,497, this after decreasing by 58 from Wednesday to Thursday.

There have been 261 deaths, with 56 people currently in hospital and 14 in ICU.

The province has completed 1,269,261 tests, including 14,211 in the last 24 hours. A total of 968,031 Albertans have been tested.

In Red Deer, active cases are down from seven to six, while Central Zone moved from 19 to 16 in the last day. Total cases in Red Deer did go from 107 to 108, however.

Five of those Central Zone cases are in Maskwacis, where one case has been confirmed by the Maskwacis Education Schools Commission. According to a letter sent home, the affected school is closed until Sept. 28 to be cleaned, disinfected and quarantined. One kindergarten cohort is required to self-isolate for 14 days and can return to school Oct. 13.

There is also one active case in Sylvan Lake, one in Olds, one in Wetaskiwin, and three in Red Deer County.
