Red Deer property tax deadline approaching
Red Deer property owners have two weeks left to pay their property taxes before the extended 2020 deadline of September 30.
In the spring, council amended the approved Operating Budget to reduce the tax rate increase and extended the 2020 payment deadline to Sept. 30 in recognition of the serious financial impact COVID-19 has had on residents and the business community.
Property owners are encouraged to pay in full and on time to avoid late fees. On Oct. 1, a seven per cent penalty is applied to any unpaid tax balances. The tax deadline and penalties do not apply to property owners who pay monthly through The City’s Tax Installment Plan (TIP).
“We recognize many residents and businesses are facing additional financial challenges due to COVID-19,” said Roxane Preedin, Controller – Property Taxation. “If property owners are unable to pay in full by September 30, we encourage them to pay off as much as they can to reduce penalties come October 1.”
