Two options for Centennial Park: campground redevelopment or residential development

Sep 10, 2020 | 1:43 PM

On September 16 at the Lou Soppit Community Centre, Rocky Mountain House residents will be presented with two possible options for the future of the Centennial Campground located at the corner of 55 Avenue and 54 Street.

Last year at this time a similar community information session was held where locals were informed of future routes the campground could take.

The original open house was to take place on April 30, but was postponed due to COVID-19.

During next Wednesday’s open house, residents will hear about the two options and then given time to voice their opinion on which route, if either, they would like the Town to take.

Option one would see the land remain as a campground to be improved through the addition of support buildings, a communal fire pit, community garden/space, and a playground area.

Option two would see the campground turned into a residential development with mixed use , accessible seniors housing, single dwellings, small multi-unit apartment building, green spaces, and community building.

Option 2 is for a Residential Development. (photo from the Town of Rocky Mountain House website.)

The Town of Rocky Mountain House has been informed that option two will be far more profitable, but a campground will no longer exist at that location.

Anyone wishing to attend Wednesday’s session will have to adhere to all COVID -19 protocols. Do not attend if you have you have any symptoms or have traveled outside of Canada within 14 days. Observe all physical distancing recommendations and wearing a mask is recommended and will be provided at the open house.
