Three people are facing numerous charges following a month-long RCMP investigation this summer that yielded a significant amount of drugs, stolen property, cash, and firearms.

In August, Red Deer RCMP’s recently created GIS Property Crime Unit executed search warrants at two separate residences in the city, resulting in investigators seizing large amounts of methamphetamine, fentanyl, crack cocaine, psilocybin, and edible cannabis for the purposes of trafficking.

Also seized were a number of stolen vehicles, all of which had their VIN or serial numbers altered to some degree. Police recovered a 2018 Mercedes, 2016 Dodge Ram truck, a 2016 Keystone Hideout travel trailer, and nine dirt bikes.

The search also yielded nearly $17,000 CDN, a loaded .44 calibre handgun, and sawed-off .22 calibre rifle.

“Seizures of this nature exemplify how our Crime Reduction Strategy is being achieved,” says Superintendent Gerald Grobmeier. “Through dedicated police investigation and intelligence analysis, we were able to focus on criminal activity that poses the greatest risk to the community. Investigations that lead to the capture of high-level drug traffickers are critical for taking dangerous substances off the streets and making our community a safe place for everyone.”

Grobmeier says the new GIS Property Crime Unit further enhances their current efforts in tackling local property crimes.

“This is that next step up that gives us a little more capacity to deal with individuals at a larger level, especially ones that are re-VINing vehicles,” he explains. “We just want to reassure people that we are focusing on the priorities that were set out for us by The City of Red Deer and mayor and council – that being crime reduction, property crime reduction, and targeting the illegal drugs infecting our community so much.”

“It’s not very often that we find this magnitude of stolen items in one area,” added Sergeant Paul Glanville. “We’re very pleased with the efforts that the Red Deer GIS and Property Crime team has put into this investigation.”

Jennifer Miller, 26, and Seth Bradley, 36, both of Red Deer, have been arrested and face charges relating to the seized drugs, property and weapons. Deanna Regnier, 64, of Red Deer, is also facing charges relating to the investigation.

Glanville notes that given the scale of the amount of drugs and property seized, the trio is part of a larger network of people involved in this type of operation.

“I don’t think that they necessarily have other people that they’re working with, but they’re working in a large network of people that are involved in this.”

Mounties say all three face counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, five counts pertaining to the possession of restricted firearms, and one count for altering a serial number of a firearm.

Police say Miller and Bradley also face charges of theft of property over $5000, six additional counts pertaining to the possession of restricted firearms, possession of currency obtained by crime, and unlawful possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling.

RCMP say Bradley also faces one additional firearm charge, with further charges related to the stolen vehicles expected.

Grobmeier says the seizures should act as another reminder to always report suspicious activity.

“You might see something that you think is trivial and not important, but it can have a significant impact on our investigations,” he explains. “We have three analysts that are analyzing our data on a daily basis telling us where we should be policing, when we should be policing and what individuals we should be targeting. One small piece of information can tie everything together and bring an investigation forward.”

RCMP say Miller and Regnier have been released from custody, while Seth Bradley remains in remand. All three are due in Red Deer Provincial Court Sept. 17.
