Red Deer sees small drop in unemployment rate
The Red Deer Region’s unemployment rate came in slightly lower last month when compared to the month before.
According to Statistics Canada, the local jobless rate in August was 12.9 per cent, down from 14 per cent in July but still much higher than the jobless rate of 7.3 per cent in August of last year.
The Red Deer area’s unemployment rate is currently lower than Calgary’s 14.2 per cent, Edmonton’s 14.1 per cent, and Camrose – Drumheller’s 13.4 per cent jobless rates.
Elsewhere, the Banff – Jasper – Rocky Mountain House – Athabasca – Grand Prairie – Peace River region is reporting a 12.1 per cent unemployment rate in August, while Wood Buffalo – Cold Lake had an 11.8 per cent unemployment rate and 8.6 per cent in the Lethbridge – Medicine Hat region.
