Alberta updates COVID-19 numbers for Aug. 31

Alberta recorded 426 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 72 hours to bring the province’s total to 13,902.

That includes 184 new cases recorded on Saturday which marks one of the largest single day increases in Alberta since the onset of the pandemic.

On Friday there were 133 new cases reported and 109 on Sunday.

The province’s lab completed 33,669 tests for the novel coronavirus over the last three days.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Alberta sits at 1,370, an increase of 185 from Friday.

Alberta has now seen 12,293 recoveries from COVID-19 which is up 239 from Friday.

Forty-four Albertans remain in hospital because of the virus, including eight who are in intensive care.

Two more deaths have been reported to bring Alberta’s fatality count from COVID-19 to 239.

In the Central Zone there are now 27 active cases of COVID-19. That’s six more than Friday’s report and second fewest of any zone in the province (South Zone has 21 active cases).

Red Deer now has seven active cases of the virus, an increase of two from Friday, and has seen 74 recoveries, an increase of five.

Innisfail: 2 active, 5 recovered

Lacombe: 1 active, five recovered

Mountain View County: 1 active, 8 recovered

Ponoka County: 0 active, 12 recovered

Clearwater County: 0 active, 3 recovered

Kneehill County: 0 cases, 18 recovered, 2 deaths

County of Stettler: 0 active, 44 recovered

Sylvan Lake: 0 active, 9 recovered

Rocky Mountain House: 0 active, 3 recovered

Town of Rimbey: 0 active, 2 recovered

Town of Ponoka: 0 active, 7 recovered

Town of Olds: 1 active, 5 recovered

Town of Sundre: 0 active cases, 1 recovered

Town of Didsbury: 1 active case, 7 recovered.
