International Overdose Awareness Day event at Turning Point

Aug 29, 2020 | 12:00 PM

Turning Point is hosting an event this Monday, Aug. 31, for International Overdose Awareness Day.

The event runs 5:30 to 8 p.m., with the first hour dedicated to a BBQ, and on-site naloxone training.

Burgers and fries will be provided by Mr. Mikes, and cupcakes will be from Babycakes.

From 6:30 on, there will be speeches, as well as prayers and a moment of silence to remember lives lost to the ongoing opioid overdose crisis.

Other resources and educational material will also be available on site.

Turning Point is located at 4611-50 Avenue.

Meantime, in Lethbridge, another event is happening for International Overdose Awareness Day.

Organizers with Moms Stop the Harm say they will gather from 5 to 8 p.m. at City Hall, where they will conduct a “die-in” to honour lives lost, and to recognize the loss of the ARCHES-run supervised consumption site.

It will be followed by a candlelight vigil walk.
