Active COVID cases down in Central Zone, up most other places

Alberta is reporting 158 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday.

This brings the total number of coronavirus cases identified in the province so far to 13,476 including 1,185 that are currently active – up 27 active cases from Thursday.

The total number of deaths from the virus remains at 237.

Numbers show there are 44 people in hospital with COVID-19 in Alberta – down four from Thursday, and still seven of those in ICU.

12,054 Albertans have recovered, with 744,053 people tested so far and 933,365 tests conducted.

There are 21 active cases of COVID-19 in the Central Zone – down four from Thursday, with one in hospital and 548 now recovered. There have been seven coronavirus-related deaths in Central Zone.

There are five active cases of COVID-19 in the City of Red Deer – down one from Thursday, including three cases in the city’s southwest and two in the east. There are 69 reported recoveries in Red Deer.

An outbreak is also still in place at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.

Elsewhere throughout Central Alberta:

  • Red Deer County: three active cases, 26 recovered.
  • Lacombe County: Four active cases, 16 recovered.
  • Ponoka County: Zero active cases, 12 recovered.
  • Mountain View County: One active case, eight recovered.
  • Clearwater County: Zero active cases, three recovered.
  • Kneehill County: Zero active cases, 18 recovered, two deaths.
  • Town and County of Stettler: Zero active cases, 44 recovered.
  • Town of Sylvan Lake: Zero active cases, nine recovered.
  • City of Lacombe: Zero active cases, five recovered.
  • Town of Innisfail: Two active cases, five recovered.
  • Town of Rocky Mountain House: Zero active cases, three recovered.
  • Town of Rimbey: Zero active cases, two recovered.
  • Town of Ponoka: Zero active cases, seven recovered.
  • Town of Olds: Zero active cases, five recovered.
  • Town of Sundre: Zero active cases, one recovered.
  • Town of Didsbury: One active case, seven recovered.

Province-wide, there are 544 active cases in the Edmonton Zone – down 45 from Thursday. Edmonton is also no longer under ‘watch’ status, which occurs when there are 50 or more cases per 100,000 people. The city is currently at 47.9.

> 435 active cases in the Calgary Zone – up 60 from Thursday

> 154 active cases in the North Zone – up six from Thursday

> There are 23 active cases in the South Zone – up five from Thursday, and eight other active cases of COVID-19 in unconfirmed locations – up five from Thursday as well.
