TORONTO, ON – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced up to $2 billion for provinces and territories as part of the Safe Return to Class Fund.

Trudeau made the announcement Wednesday morning, saying the funding will help ensure school boards have the tools they need to provide a safe environment as staff and students return to classes.

For example, the Safe Return to Class Fund will help provinces and territories by supporting adapted learning spaces, improved air ventilation, the purchases of personal protective equipment and cleaning supplies, as well as increased hand sanitation and hygiene.

Funding will be provided in two installments with a first in the fall and additional funding available for early 2021.

The funding by province and territory will be allocated based on the number of children aged four and 18 years old, with a $2 million base amount provided to each jurisdiction.
