One man is in custody and facing numerous charges after a road rage incident near Innisfail this week involving the pointing of a firearm.

On Aug. 25, at 9:16 a.m., Innisfail RCMP say QEII Integrated Traffic Services responded to an incident where a firearm was pointed from a vehicle to another driver following an incident of road rage near Antler Hill on Highway 2 north of Innisfail.

No one was injured.

Police located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Highway 2 near Highway 54 when it fled at a high rate of speed.

A pursuit was initiated but stopped due public safety on the highway. Traffic Services members with assistance from Innisfail RCMP Detachment located the suspect vehicle a short time later after it crashed into a field.

Mounties say the lone occupant was located suffering from serious, non-life threatening injuries. He was arrested and transported to hospital by EMS.

Benjamin Tyrone Schnieder, 34, of no fixed address has been charged with pointing a firearm, flight from police, dangerous driving, obstruct police officer, identity fraud, two counts of possession of stolen property, possess counterfeit currency, and four counts of fail to comply.

RCMP say Schnieder has been remanded into custody following a judicial hearing and is set to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on Sept. 2.
