Backcountry rider requires STARS after getting bucked off near Cutoff Creek

Aug 25, 2020 | 1:44 PM

Clearwater Regional Fire Rescue Services Search and Rescue were called to an injured horseback rider that had been bucked off while riding west of Caroline in the Cutoff Creek area, near the Forestry Trunk Road on Monday.

STARS also responded to the call around 9:48 pm to transport the patient to hospital but it was unknown if the helicopter would be able to land in the area of the patient.

Officials say fire crews arrived at the staging location at Cutoff Creek and devised plans to get in and retrieve the individual if the STARS pilot was unable to land where the rider was injured.

The patient was retrieved by STARS and flown to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary.
