Downtown McDonald’s reopens after employee tests positive for COVID-19

McDonald’s Canada says its restaurant in downtown Red Deer is back open after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.

The company says in a statement that the employee reported testing positive for the virus on Thursday and that the restaurant at 4840 52 Avenue was immediately closed out of an abundance of caution.

“The decision was made to immediately shut down the restaurant for a thorough cleaning and sanitization by a certified third party,” the statement reads.

The location reopened as of 8 a.m. Friday.

McDonald’s Canada says any other employees who may have come into contact with the infected individual have been asked to self-quarantine until further information is available.

The company says the infected employee worked their last shift on August 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Any guests who may have visited the restaurant on August 17 are asked to follow the direction of Alberta Health Services.

“Maintaining the health and well-being of our crew and guests is our top priority, and we will continue to monitor and adapt measures, where necessary,” McDonald’s Canada says.
