Rocky RCMP Report August 1-19

This is a report released to the media from the Rocky Mountain House (RMH) RCMP giving a brief description of various crimes and call-ins, both solved and unsolved throughout the community between the dates of August 1-19

Not all crimes reported are listed in this report.

August 1

12:39 P.M. – A licence plate was stolen off a vehicle in RMH.

1:32 P.M. – Theft from a holiday trailer while at a site on Range Road 7-1, Clearwater County. Children’s toys, clothes, and laptops were stolen.

2:34 P.M. – Call of a female who fell at Crescent Falls and suffered a broken knee. She had to be “long lined” with a helicopter to get her out and was transported to the hospital via EMS.

4:22 P.M. – Vehicle broken into on the side of Hwy #11 after it had been left for a tow truck to pick up after it had broken down. A passenger window was smashed in and the ignition was tampered with.

10:41 P.M. – Report of a loud party and music at a camping area at Jackfish Lake. Partiers had also dammed the river.

August 2

9:10 A.M. – Report from the owner of a stolen work truck from Barrhead advising of its location in RMH via a GPS unit. Police attended the specified location as two males exited the vehicle in the plaza parking lot. One individual was immediately arrested while the other fled on foot. He was later identified and a warrant will be sought for his arrest. Illicit drugs were located on the arrested suspect.

6:29 P.M. – Report of an assault overnight which occurred at a resort, west of Nordegg. Under investigation.

9:05 P.M. – Call to assist EMS with an individual who had been stabbed on the Sunchild First Nation Reserve. Police attended and spoke to the person who refused to cooperative but was transported to the hospital by EMS.

10:52 P.M. – Call of a male trying to burn down a residence on the O’Chiese First Nation Reserve by throwing ashes and fire at it, while yelling that he was going to burn everyone inside. Police located and arrested the intoxicated adult male and charges are pending.

11:45 P.M. – Call of loud individuals hanging around the street in front of residences in RMH. Police arrested two young adult males who didn’t heed the warnings given the first time they had attended. They were released when sober.

August 3

05:55 A.M. – Police stopped a vehicle in RMH which pulled into a local RMH motel. While arresting the occupants for illicit drugs and stolen property (ID’s & vehicle validation tags), the driver put the car into gear and fled the scene. The vehicle was recovered in Blackfalds and an arrest warrant has been issued for the suspect driver.

11:54 A.M. – Unlocked company truck broken into while parked at residence in RMH. Laptop, printer, and a grease gun were stolen.

8:06 P.M. – Report of a truck stolen earlier in the day, located abandoned on SecHwy #591.

10:50 P.M. – Call from a complainant advising he and his friends were bear sprayed by unknown individuals driving by in a newer black Cadillac SUV on 50 St., RMH. No licence plate was obtained.

August 4

00:23 A.M. – Call from a RMH resident who advised he witnessed a male breaking into his neighbour’s vehicles. Police located the adult male suspect on his BMX bike and was subsequently arrested. The stolen items were recovered and returned to the owner. Charges are pending

2:54 P.M. – Report of five windows smashed out of a residence on the O’Chiese First Nation Reserve.

August 5

00:16 A.M. – Vandalism reported to the O’Chiese Public Works shop. Vehicles were spray painted.

12:31 P.M. – Call of an intoxicated male on highway 11, on the north side of RMH. Police arrested the individual who was released after sobering up.

3:50 P.M. – Stolen licence plate located attached to a vehicle parked at a local RMH motel. The owner of the vehicle was located in one of the rooms. The adult female was arrested and released on scene to appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

August 6

1:40 P.M. – Complaint of fraud after a Clearwater County resident reported that a call was received from someone claiming to be a bank employee asking questions about their bank account and claiming to be working with the police. Matter referred to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center.

4:04 P.M. – Report of theft from a trailer while parked behind a business in Caroline. A cash register, with Toonies and Loonies, was stolen along with documents. Two youths later came to the business with their parents and apologized while returning the items. No charges were laid.

9:26 P.M. – Call of a male face down in the ditch on Hwy #11 and #22 North. Police attended along with EMS. The very intoxicated and disoriented individual was arrested and released after sobering up.

August 7

11:07 A.M. – Complaint of an assault on the O’Chiese First Nation Reserve. Under investigation.

3:06 P.M. – Complaint of a female impersonating an AHS officer at a RMH department store. The matter is under investigation.

6:50 P.M. – Theft of belongings overnight from a truck parked at a RMH residence.

9:20 P.M. – Report of a silver 2016 DODGE Ram stolen from a residence on the O’Chiese First Nation Reserve.

August 8

1:59 A.M. – Hit & Run reported at RMH convenience store. The suspect vehicle was found at a local motel where the driver was located. The individual was issued a GDL suspension and a violation ticket for “Failing to Remain at the Scene of a Collison”. The vehicle was seized for 30 days.

6:11 A.M. – Theft of a black 2009 YAMAHA Grizzly 700 ATV, a 2011 yellow BOMBARDIER CanAm Outlander ATV, and a dirt bike which were all taken from Chambers Creek campground overnight.

11:14 P.M. – RMH Crime Reduction unit member observed a dirt bike driving erratically, without a headlight, on the O’Chiese First Nation Reserve. It was observed passing 2 vehicles before losing control and ending up in the long grass. The rider fled on foot but was located. It was determined that the unit had been stolen earlier in the day & charges have been laid against a youth who is to appear in Provincial Court on a later date.

August 9

1:52 A.M. – Call from a RMH resident who woke up to a crashing sound and discovered his vehicle damaged while parked on the street. Police attended and examined the scene with the suspect vehicle still at the location. The adult male driver had left the scene but was located at his residence and arrested for “Impaired Driving”. Charges are pending.

5:44 A.M. – Report of a car window smashed with a baseball bat on the O’Chiese First Nation Reserve. Warrant requested for the suspect.

2:30 P.M. – Call from a Clearwater County resident who advised that he caught a male stealing fuel and then the suspect tried to run him over before fleeing in a grey Nissan pickup truck. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Red Deer.

11:46 P.M. – Police attempted to stop a vehicle on the O’Chiese First Nation Reserve but it fled at a high rate of speed. It was later located abandoned on the Sunchild FN Reserve and was towed.

August 10

6:38 A.M. – Police attended Evergreen Community Center after an alarm was set off. A padlock was cut off a shed and two Jerry cans of gas were stolen.

9:02 A.M. – RMH resident found tools in bush area near the RMH dog park. The items were returned to the owner who had reported them stolen overnight from a sea can belonging to a construction company.

10:27 A.M. – 911 call of a home invasion in which two males entered a Clearwater County home on Twp Rd 36-0 and assaulted the residents with bear spray. Four firearms were stolen. One of the suspects from the Calgary area had an outstanding Canada Wide warrant for a parole violation. Late in the evening on August 12, the suspect was spotted in the Lacombe area, travelling in a stolen vehicle at a high rate of speed. During the early hours of the 13th, the suspect vehicle along with another stolen vehicle, were later located in the Clive & Stettler area where shots were fired at police. After utilizing a tire deflation device and with the assistance of Police Dog Services, members of the Emergency Response Team, and the Crime Reduction Unit, both vehicles were disabled and both suspects were arrested. They are facing numerous charges and are due back in Provincial Court August 17 after being remanded into custody.

4:11 P.M. – B&E to garage at residence on Twp Rd 38-0 and Range Road 44-0, Clearwater County. Damage done but nothing reported stolen.

5:37 P.M. – Report of a shop broken into on Range Road 4-4 &Twp Rd 37-5, Clearwater County. Culprit(s) entered via a doggy door and stole batteries, tools, and scrap metal.

August 11

6:35 A.M. – Call of three males who broke into complainant’s vehicle and fell asleep while he was camping in the Allstones area of Clearwater County. They damaged the ignition and fled with blankets and food when he approached them.

11:53 A.M. – Burnt out truck located on the Sunchild First Nation Reserve. Under investigation.

9:21 P.M. – Call of an unknown male pointing a firearm at an individual on the Sunchild First Nation Reserve and then while enroute, police received another call advising that this male pointed it at a vehicle driving by. The suspect was located and arrested. Charged are pending.

August 12

3:09 P.M. – Report from Alberta Agriculture & Forestry advising that handles on truck tool boxes were tampered with and numerous locks were cut off enclosed trailers and Sea Can storage units located in their yard in RMH.

August 13

5:50 A.M. – Call of an intoxicated male hanging around a local RMH bar and then a second call was received advising he was wandering up the street, asking for rides. Police attended and gave him a ride to a local motel where he had a room.

8:45 A.M. – B&E reported to a local RMH automotive repair shop. Two sea cans were broken into and wheels and rims were taken but recovered in a nearby field.

12:16 P.M. – Attempted theft of a vehicle in Caroline overnight. The steering column and ignition were damaged and the battery was stolen.

12:26 P.M. – Licence plate reported stolen from a trailer at a residence in RMH.

1:14 P.M. – 2019 black SUZUKI 750 ATV stolen overnight from a residence on the Sunchild First Nation Reserve.

1:40 P.M. – $4000 worth of batteries reported stolen from a lease site in Clearwater County.

3:23 P.M. – Report of a fence at a RMH school damaged overnight. Appears a vehicle went through it.

3:49 P.M. – Damage reported to a residence on the O’Chiese FN Reserve. Culprit(s) entered the residence and damaged a wall and smashed windows.

August 14

1:52 A.M. – Call of two males trying to get into vehicles on the north end of RMH.

10:22 A.M. – B&E at a farm on Range Road 4-1 & Twp Rd 37-2, Clearwater County. The door was forced open and a “piggy” bank full of coins and tools were stolen. The matter is under investigation.

11:34 A.M. – Pickup truck reported stolen from the RMH airport. Recovered in Red Deer.

August 15

12:48 P.M. – RMH Crime Reduction Unit stopped a vehicle in which the driver switched with a passenger while they were being stopped. Violation tickets were issued.

2:36 P.M. – Call of an assault on the O’Chiese First Nation Reserve. Police attended and arrested the complainant for Public Mischief after the investigation determined he was lying and had uttered threats to another person.

5:30 P.M. – While travelling on SecHwy #752, police observed a blue motorcycle travelling 131 km/h in a 60 km/h zone near Cow Lake. When the rider seen the police behind him with the emergency lights activated, he/she turned down a dead-end road toward the campground. The rider ditched the motorcycle in the trees and ran off. The unit was towed and the rider has yet to be identified.

11:46 P.M. – Police stopped a vehicle for failing to stop at a stop sign in Caroline. The male driver failed the MAS test and was subsequently arrested. Breath samples were obtained well over the legal limit and charges are pending.

August 16

2:16 A.M. – Police received a complaint from a Clearwater County resident who advised that a pickup truck had just been in their yard and sped away when approached. Police located the vehicle and the driver down the road, passed out with a bottle of liquor on his lap. The male driver from RMH was arrested for Impaired Driving and charges are pending.

3:02 P.M. – Lawnmower reported stolen from a residence in RMH.

11:27 P.M. – Call of an assault which occurred at a residence on the O’Chiese First Nation Reserve. Police attended and determined that a male had been freaking out and had tried to start a fire in the kitchen. He was subsequently arrested and charges are pending.

August 17

7:49 A.M. – A Crime Reduction Unit member stopped a vehicle on the O’Chiese First Nation Reserve. The driver was found to be suspended and as a result the vehicle was towed & seized for 30 days. Drug paraphernalia and Meth was located. Charges are pending.

8:28 A.M. – B&E reported to a business in the RMH industrial area. Doors and windows were found open on multiple bay doors. A customer’s vehicle was damaged.

8:33 A.M. – B&E reported to a RMH hardware store compound. Numerous items stolen.

10:01 A.M. – Theft of a 2012 red POLARIS RANGER 500 side-by-side ATV stolen from a lease site on the north side of Clearwater County.

11:18 A.M. – Report of an assault over the weekend at a campsite near RMH. Under investigation

5:19 P.M. – Lock cut off a shed at the Boy’s & Girl’s Club in RMH. Nothing appeared to have been stolen.

5:03 P.M. – Theft of a 2020 grey CFMOTO C Force 600 quad from a residence on the Sunchild First Nation Reserve.

9:15 P.M. – 911 call of individuals on a quad, on the Sunchild FN Reserve, shooting off guns. They were not located.

August 18

8:08 A.M. – Lock reported cut off shed at a residence in RMH. A vehicle was also damaged.

8:44 A.M. – B&E reported to a lease site in Clearwater County. An office building and a Sea Can were broken into. Hard drives, monitors, and printers were stolen along with wire cables from the Sea Can.

9:47 A.M. – White 2001 DODGE Ram diesel, with topper, stolen from a residence in RMH.

2:42 P.M. – Property damage reported to a barbed wire fence and poles on Range Road 54-0 & Twp Rd 39-4, Clearwater County Vehicle pieces found nearby.

2:54 P.M. – Window smashed and Co-op fuel card stolen from a truck belonging to a road crew working in Clearwater County.

6:21 P.M. – Report of a fence, located near a shop, knocked down by a vehicle overnight at a residence on SecHwy #761.

10:29 P.M. – Theft of a silver 2001 GMC Sierra 3500 stolen from Caroline.

August 19

9:26 A.M. – Basement window reported smashed at a residential property in RMH.
