Central zone see big drop in active COVID-19 cases, additional death

Alberta is reporting 82 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the total to 12,501.

Updated numbers on the provincial website show 11,167 recovered cases, an increase of 142, and 1,107 active cases, a drop of 62.

There are 48 Albertans currently in hospital due to COVID-19, 12 of which are in ICU.

There have been a total of 227 deaths, an increase of two.

The province conducted 9,029 tests in the past 24 hours.

There are now just 40 active cases of COVID-19 in the Central Zone, down by more than half from the 87 active cases reported on Tuesday, while the number of recoveries has risen to 517. There are four hospitalizations in the zone, none of whom are in intensive care.

Unfortunately, the zone has seen an additional death from the virus, bringing that total to seven.

Red Deer now sits with 11 active cases, a decrease of three, and the number of recoveries is listed at 62.

Elsewhere, Red Deer County still has just one active case as does the city of Lacombe, Lacombe County has five, Mountain View County has two, Kneehill County has two and the County of Stettler has five.
