Red Deer musician qualifies for next round of national singer/songwriter competition

Red Deer musician Curtis Labelle is into the The Shot’s top 40.

Labelle began his journey on The Shot, a competition offering independent Canadian singer/songwriters the chance to sign with a record label.

The latest season began with a fan voting aspect which had to be scrapped due to abuse from a third-party, Labelle notes. At the time things were changed up, Labelle had the most votes of over 100 contestants.

Regardless, he’s excited to be into the next phase, now with the added prize of playing alongside some of the country’s biggest names during Canadian Music Week 2021.

“I am learning a lot about my work ethic, responsibility to project deadlines, and time management, among other things,” Labelle tells rdnewsNOW. “This has been another exciting experience to add to my journey, especially in music. I am jumping for the other stars in other galaxies with vibrating joy! Now is the time I must bring more to the table and even break out more.”

Included in the selection of competitors to advance to the next round was a very special guest judge, that being Lance Bass of NSYNC fame.

Going forward, fans can follow the season on YouTube starting Sept. 19. The next round will be focused on artists taking part in label meetings.

Labelle also has a new single coming out on August 21 called ‘Blue Dream’ and has started a weekly Facebook Live called Chattin’ 88s at Eight each Wednesday.

“Every bit of support helps, even if voting was compromised in the early stages. I know when I get likes, shares, comments, and even the constructive criticism, every ounce of it helps me develop and morph myself and grow,” he says of his fans. “It is my responsibility to listen to my supports and fans, family, and friends. I am not alone on this journey.”
