Drayton Valley launches Smart Cities pilot project to optimize municipal processes

Aug 14, 2020 | 1:22 PM

The Town of Drayton Valley has launched a new pilot project that will use technology to help with municipal planning.

The six month Smart Cities Pilot Project is utilizing new technologies to aid in community planning and optimize municipal processes.

Initiated by Town Council, the innovative technology will assess and improve community planning, maintenance, and infrastructure upgrading processes.

In a press release, the Town says the pilot project included the installation of cameras at five key intersections and five public spaces in Drayton Valley.

The cameras will gain insights to support better infrastructure planning and maintenance of Town-owned assets while helping to address traffic congestion and the timing of lights.

The hardware, infrastructure, and software for the pilot were provided by TELUS.

The project was initially supposed to launch in March 2020 but was postponed due to COVID-19.
