Red Deer RCMP traffic stop leads to trafficking charges
Two people have been charged after Red Deer RCMP seized a shotgun and contraband during a traffic stop this week.
On Aug. 3, Mounties were conducting patrols at 3:57 a.m. when they stopped a vehicle on 67 Street. They arrested the driver, who provided a false identity. Subsequent to the arrest, the vehicle was searched.
Police say a substantial amount of cash was seized, a shotgun, an amount of what is believed to be methamphetamine as well as items typically associated to the trafficking of illicit drugs.
Billy Kirk Okeynan, 31 is facing seven criminal charges including possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, possession of property obtained by crime, possession for the purpose of trafficking and obstruct police officer. He has been remanded in custody and is next scheduled to appear in court in Red Deer on Aug. 13.
