Support rolling in for bullied Red Deer girl

An outpouring of support is rolling in for a Red Deer mother and her eight-year-old daughter who has been troubled by bullying over the last several months.

Since rdnewsNOW first published a story about the situation on Monday, Shannon and her daughter Brooklynn have received numerous offers of help from central Alberta and across the province.

Bikers Are Buddies Canada has stepped in to organize an Anti-bully Awareness Ride for Brooklynn on Aug. 8. The event begins in Calgary and will roll into Carnival Cinemas in Red Deer at 11:30 a.m. and then on to Brooklynn’s house where they will take her for a ride before having a BBQ at 4250 54 Ave with her and her family.

Shannon says the event is for anyone who wants so show support for not only Brooklynn, but anyone who is also being bullied or has been bullied at some point in their life.

“Brooklynn will see how many people support her and will be there for her,” Shannon says.

“The reason I reached out to Bikers Are Buddies Canada is because I wanted a way to show Brooklynn that she wasn’t alone and people were listening to her story,” she explains. “Not only will they give her and her sister a ride, but also instill some self-worth in her knowing that all these bikers want to be her buddy and she is no longer alone.”

Shannon added, “I know that Brooklynn will be well protected from now on. She will know that even when things get hard, someone is always willing to listen and to help!”

She notes that other offers of help have come in for her daughter as well, including a local dance studio looking to offer Brooklyn a local scholarship to take classes.

“I will be more than willing to speak with anyone if they wish to talk to me about our situation or offer some advice that I may have,” Shannon noted. “We will be there for Brooklynn but also for any victims who wish to come and join us and see the support they have as well.”

Humbled by all the support, Shannon says it’s important for her family to know that someone is always listening.

“I want both my girls to know they do not stand alone and that bullying will never be tolerated. We’ve had so much support and so many people reach out and want to make a positive impact on my girls’ lives. I know that things will get better. I believe that this all happened for a reason and I see no reason that things won’t get better.”
