Payment for City of Red Deer lots and monthly parking to resume August 4

As of Tuesday, August 4, The City of Red Deer will be reinstating the requirement of payment for daily and monthly parking in its downtown parking lots.

During the initial stages of The City’s municipal response to COVID-19, modifications made to parking operations included removing the requirement of monthly parking fees and payment for on-street and off-street parking, and enforcement.

In June, payment for on-street meters resumed, in alignment with the Phase 2 of the provincial relaunch, with the plan to gradually reinstate other fees throughout the summer.

The fees reinstated for August 4 include:

– Monthly parking fees

– Sorensen Station Parkade re-opens to monthly pass holders (no daily parking available)

Enforcement will also resume in these areas starting August 4.

“This fee reinstatement aligns with many businesses resuming work in our downtown, and phase two of the provincial relaunch strategy,” said Erin Stuart, Inspections & Licensing Manager. “However, we do understand that not everyone has returned downtown, and there are still people working remotely, so we are happy to work with residents to do what works for every situation.”

Sorenson Station will open for monthly pass holders only, with no access for daily parking. To increase safety and security for users, Sorenson Station will remain locked at all times. Monthly pass holders may enter by using an access card at the roll gates and stairwell doors. Pass holders for Sorenson Station that put their account on hold will have their access card deactivated. Residents can visit the temporary City customer service centre at the Recreation Centre if a new access card is required.
