RED DEER COUNTY – RCMP believe around 500 people were involved in a massive party west of Bowden last weekend that drew the ire of local residents.

Mounties from Innisfail and Sundre say they received 11 separate calls between Saturday night and Sunday morning with complaints regarding the party at the Garrington Bridge area along Highway 587 near Range Road 43.

“The calls for service ranged from damaged property, driving complaints, liquor offences, stolen property, uttering threats, and one report of possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace,” reads a media release.

A Sundre RCMP vehicle had its window smashed out while police were at the scene of the gathering.

Fish and Wildlife also attended to investigate a deer that was found deceased near the location of the party.

Residents in the area told police they were kept awake by the noise of people partying and setting off fireworks throughout the night. One resident reported that there were still 40 vehicles in the area the following day.

Police surveyed the damage and found human feces, toilet paper, garbage, empty alcohol containers, stolen traffic signs and COVID-19 social distancing signs stolen from Innisfail.

Numerous provincial tickets were issued and checkstops were conducted in a bid to ensure there were no impaired drivers left the area.

RCMP say that law enforcement efforts will be ongoing in an attempt to maintain safety in the area and hopefully provide some peace to the people who reside there.

“This is concerning behavior which has become very unfortunate for people who reside in this area, their ability to enjoy their homes and their property has obviously been impacted,” says Innisfail RCMP Sgt. Lori Eiler. “Further to this RCMP are concerned with the criminal behavior as well as the health concerns, which are obvious.”
