Two charged in Maskwacis homicide

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit has arrested and charged two males in connection with the July 21 death of a 38-year-old man on the Samson Cree Nation.

At 5:12 p.m. on July 21, Maskwacis RCMP were called to assist EMS with a male who was assaulted at a residence. Mounties say the male was taken by ambulance to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Maskwacis RCMP engaged Major Crimes Unit – South to take carriage of the investigation.

On July 22, the investigation led to the conclusion that a charge of second degree murder would be supported.

Edward Vincent Crier, 31, and Louie Albert Thom, 33, are both charged with second degree murder in the homicide of Benjamin Morin of Maskwacis.

Crier was remanded in custody to appear in Ponoka Provincial Court on July 24, while Thom is remanded in custody to appear in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court on July 28.
