McDowell, Graf tie for 3rd at Alberta Men’s Amateur

Red Deer golfers Chandler McDowell and Carter Graf finished tied for third at the 2020 Alberta Men’s Amateur Championship in Medicine Hat.

Michael Valk of Medicine Hat took the title after firing a course record tying 65 on Thursday at the Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club to finish at -9 for the tournament.

Valk came into the final round as co-leader with Graf and Lacombe’s Brady McKinlay at three-under before turning on the jets to wrap up the shortened three-day tournament.

Alberta junior provincial champion Hunter Thompson finished as the runner-up after firing a two-under, 69 on Thursday to finish at -4.

McDowell shot 66 on Thursday while Graf turned in a 72 as the pair finished the event at -2.

McKinlay shot 75 on Thursday to finish at +1 and tied for tenth place with two other golfers including Red Deer’s Cole Bergheim.

Logan Graf of Red Deer finished tied for 16^th at +3.

Next up is the on the provincial golf circuit is the Alberta Open at Wolf Creek Golf Resort. July 28-30.
