Rocky RCMP arrest repeat offender, seize gun and ammo
A man police describe as a repeat offender is now facing over a dozen new charges after an arrest in Rocky Mountain House this week.
On July 21, the Rocky Mountain House Crime Reduction Unit was said to be conducting a targeted operation in a known crime area, when they identified and arrested a repeat offender, recovering a rifle of unknown, illegal origin in the process.
Mounties say the man was observed participating in suspicious activity and was arrested on his outstanding warrants, without incident. A search incidental to his arrest yielded an illegally obtained 30-30 rifle with ammunition.
Joel Larry Champion, 27, is facing 17 criminal code charges, including carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon contrary to an order, possession of a weapon obtained by crime, and six counts of fail to comply with a release order condition.
