In-school classes

Wild Rose School Division taking all precautions

Jul 22, 2020 | 4:58 PM

On Tuesday, the province announced in-school classes for the 2020-21 school year would resume with additional health measures in place.

Wild Rose School Division sent out an update following the news, and says classes in their schools will resume for students August 31.

The district reassured everyone that they will be following required public health measures, such as hand washing, respiratory etiquette (cover mouth when coughing etc.), physical distancing, use of cohorts, increased frequency of cleaning and disinfection, having any staff and students stay home if showing signs of illness.

All re-entry guidelines for staff, students, and parents could be subject to change.

Wild Rose School Division Superintendent Brad Volkman stated that more information will be released about their re-entry plans once they have fully reviewed the documents provided by the government.

He has said that the finished plans will be completed by August 7 and will include new protocols for buses.

Replying to concerned parents telling the division which re-entry scenario they’d like followed, Volkman said that they do not have the authority to choose which scenario 1, 2, or 3 they would like to follow, and that it will be up to the Chief Medical Officer to make that call.

“In some cases, students may need to continue with teacher directed at-home instruction much like all of our students received during the final months of the 2019-20 school year,” Volkman noted responding to a parent who was concerned over her child’s current health issues.

“Safety of our students and staff will continue to be our top priority and we take very seriously our responsibility to provide quality learning opportunities for all of our students.”
