The Government of Alberta has released its report on COVID-19 for Tuesday, July 14.

86 new infections were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 8,912. Of those, 701 cases are still active while 8,048 have recovered.

This includes eight active cases of coronavirus identified in the City of Red Deer with four cases in the north and four in the city’s east end.

Elsewhere throughout central Alberta, there are three active cases of COVID-19 in Red Deer County, three active cases in Lacombe County, three in Ponoka County, three in Mountain View County, including one in the Town of Olds, two active cases in Kneehill County, and nine active cases throughout Stettler and the County of Stettler.

“The virus has now been in Alberta for four months, and while we saw cases decline from the peak seen in April, our daily cases have begun to rise over the past few days,” says Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw.

Two people in the Edmonton Zone died as a result of the virus, meaning it has claimed the lives of 163 Albertans.

While older people are more likely to experience serious complications from a COVID-19 infection, Dr. Hinshaw is concerned that larger numbers of younger Albertans are contracting the virus.

“Over the past two weeks, 780 new cases have been identified in the province with 57 per cent of these cases being under the age of 40. Of these, 30 per cent have not yet been linked to any known source.”

545,902 tests have been completed in Alberta to date.

Also of note, Edmonton’s Misericordia Hospital remains closed to new patients because of a COVID-19 outbreak: 17 patients and 17 staff have tested positive. There have been no new cases since July 11.

Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health are monitoring the situation.

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta is a follows:
