Bob Clark, soon to be Alberta Hockey Hall of Famer and former minister, passes away

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney issued a statement Saturday following news of the passing of former Alberta Minister Bob Clark.

Elected in 1960 at the age of 23, Clark was born and raised in central Alberta. He eventually served as Minister of Youth and Minister of Education.

“Following the election of the Lougheed government, Bob became Leader of the Opposition in 1973, and continued to represent the constituency of Olds-Didsbury until 1981,” says Kenney. “As both a government and opposition member, Bob was respected by members of all parties, and was considered a true gentleman with a real heart for public service.”

The premier also noted Clark’s role as the province’s first Ethics Commissioner in 1992, and later the first Privacy and Information Commissioner in 1995.

“He volunteered in countless roles, including for three terms as chairman of the board of Olds College, and chairman of the board of the Alberta Junior A Hockey League,” Kenney says. “He was always a passionate voice for his constituents, agriculture, and our parliamentary institutions.

In 2003, Clark earned the Alberta Lieutenant Governor’s Award for his dedication to public service. He was honoured earlier this year by the Olds Grizzlys Jr. A hockey club for his past contributions as the team’s general manager and president.

It was also announced this year that Clark would be part of the 2020 class being inducted into the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame.

Clark was 83.
