County council approves speed limit reduction for part of Waskasoo Avenue

Residential growth has led to the speed limit for a stretch of road in Gasoline Alley being lowered from 80 km/h to 60 km/h.

Red Deer County council approved the speed limit cut for the section of Waskasoo Avenue between Lantern Street and McKenzie Road during their regular meeting on Tuesday.

The stretch of road is described as being in a transitional area between rural and urban living.

Council heard that the county’s Operations Services department conducted a speed limit evaluation on this section of road based on several criteria, including intersection sight distance, passing opportunities, entrances and driveways to the new Liberty Landing subdivision, design speed and length of the road.
