Jul 9, 2020 | 10:46 AM

People in west central Alberta may observe training exercises being undertaken by the 408 Tactical Helicopter Squadron this weekend.

The training is scheduled for July 9-11 in the area of Ram Falls. The public can expect to see three CH-146 Griffon helicopters doing mountain flying training as far north as Nordegg, as far south as Sundre, just west of Rocky Mountain House, and into B.C.’s Donald area.

Approximately 20 members of the squadron will be accompanied by two military-patterned vehicles travelling by road. No firearms will be used by personnel, aircraft or vehicles.

Personnel will be in the area starting at 6 p.m. on July 9 and leave the area by 1 p.m. on Saturday (July 11).

This is following up similar training done in the area from June 12-14, and further training is scheduled for July 23-25 and August 27-29.

“The Squadron appreciates the support of the people of Alberta as we continue to train to support Canadians’ needs domestically and abroad,” a release states.

The squadron is based at CFB Edmonton and has the principal role of supporting units of 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group, as well as Joint Task Force (West).
