Jul 8, 2020 | 12:00 PM

Two trials have been scheduled for a local man facing murder and attempted murder charges in relation to separate incidents in Red Deer last year.

Quentin Strawberry, who is 39, will stand trial on counts of second-degree murder and assault causing bodily harm in Red Deer Court of Queen’s Bench from March 8-26, 2021.

The charges stem from the March 29, 2019 death of Joseph Gallant. The 45-year-old died in hospital after he was found suffering from serious injuries a home in Red Deer’s Grandview neighbourhood.

Jennifer Caswell is also charged with second-degree murder and assault causing bodily harm in relation to Gallant’s death. She is being tried separately and is due back in court on July 16.

Meantime, Strawberry will stand trial this fall for an incident that occurred while he was out on bail.

It was on Dec. 2, 2019 when Red Deer RCMP attended a downtown apartment building and found a male suffering from a head injury after an alleged attack involving a machete.

Strawberry is charged with attempted murder, obstructing a police officer and six counts of breach of recognizance.

A preliminary hearing for the matter scheduled for May was waived after the Crown was granted permission to proceed by direct indictment.

The trial for this case will take place Sept. 21-23, 2020.
