Building permit numbers rise in June

The City of Red Deer says building permit applications returned to a “seasonal average” in June after slowing in May.

Last month’s numbers show the number of permits issued by the city rose from 39 in May to 108 in June.

The city issued 106 permits in June 2019.

Through the first half of 2020 (January-June) Red Deer has seen an overall increase in permit values compared to the same period last year, rising from $74.9 million to $97.1 million.

Notable permits issued last month include:

• Building permit to construct a 3.5 storey, 24-suite apartment building at 3610 50 Avenue, valued at $1.5 million.

• Building permit for City Hall renovations including partial envelope rehab, exterior wall/window retrofit, valued at $1.9 million.

• Building permit to remove existing lift, install elevator, demolish interior and construct show space at a commercial building located at 4919 59 Street.
