Police chase ends in farmer’s field near Sylvan Lake

Three people have been arrested following a police chase Thursday afternoon that started in Rocky Mountain House and ended near Sylvan Lake.

It was at about 4:30 p.m. when RCMP spotted a man wanted on outstanding warrants driving a vehicle in Rocky Mountain House. Two women were also in the vehicle at the time.

A media release from RCMP says officers were making an attempt to contain the vehicle in a parking lot when it intentionally rammed two police vehicles and a civilian vehicle.

The fleeing vehicle also struck an RCMP member on the leg, the release adds.

A pursuit was initiated as the suspect vehicle sped down gravel roads eastbound towards Sylvan Lake, avoiding several spike belts along the way.

RCMP say Cole Joseph Obdam is facing criminal charges and a judicial interim release hearing is pending, and that the 24-year-old and 21-year-old female passengers are facing criminal charges and will be released on undertakings.

“The RCMP can confirm that during the pursuit, one of the RCMP vehicles was involved in a separate collision with two uninvolved civilian vehicles at an intersection. A traffic analyst is investigating this collision,” says Alberta RCMP Corporal Laurel Scott, adding that no one was injured during the incident.
