Rebels select Czech forward at CHL Import Draft

The Red Deer Rebels added a forward at the 2020 CHL Import Draft.

With the 18^th overall selection, the Rebels selected Tomas Chlubna, a 17-year-old, six-foot-two native of the Czech Republic. He was the 14^th player taken in Tuesday’s draft as several teams passed on their selections.

Chlubna played last season with Dukla Jihlava HC of the Czech2 league – the country’s third-highest hockey league – and collected 16 points in 41 games.

He played for the Czech Republic at the 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup tournament where he had three assists in four games. Chlubna played at the World U17 Hockey Championship and had two points in three games played.

NHL Central Scouting has the right-shooting Chlubna ranked 52^nd among European Skaters for the 2020 NHL Draft.

His father, also named Tomas Chlubna, had an 18-year professional hockey career in Europe, as per Elite Prospects.

The younger Chlubna is projected to join Finnish defenceman Christoffer Sedoff as the two import players on the Rebels roster for the upcoming season.
