Chamber of Commerce welcomes Alberta’s Recovery Plan

The Red Deer & District Chamber of Commerce is weighing in on Alberta’s Recovery Plan, announced Monday by Premier Jason Kenney, saying they’re pleased to see the provincial government is focusing on creating jobs, diversifying the economy and building infrastructure.

Included in the plan are a $10 billion infrastructure investment and measures to accelerate the Job Creation Tax cut that will see the corporate tax rate reduced to 8 per cent on July 1, along with several measures to diversify the economy and increase employment.

“It is very gratifying that the provincial government has listened to the concerns of small business,” says Chamber CEO Rick More.

“Through the combined surveys of Red Deer & District Chamber of Commerce and the Alberta Chamber of Commerce, the accumulated data weighed heavily on a reduction of the business tax. To accelerate this initiative by 18 months to 8 per cent shows the support needed especially after these last four months of COVID-19. Alberta will be THE place for investors to turn their attention towards.”

The Chamber says the Central Alberta economy was already weak going into the pandemic and was hurt further by the OPEC-Russia price war, and feels the measures included in the recovery plan will “go a long way to restoring investor confidence in our region and providing a broad-based competitive tax structure that facilitates growth and investment.”
