Jun 17, 2020 | 3:55 PM

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Alberta rose by 37 on Wednesday to sit at 486.

Out of nearly 7,000 tests completed over the past day, 48 new cases were confirmed to bring Alberta’s overall total to 7,530.

The number of recoveries from COVID-19 in the province has risen to 6,893, which is nine more than reported on Monday.

There are 38 Albertans in hospital because of COVID-19, including seven who are in intensive care.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Central Zone remains two, including one in Red Deer, out of 88 confirmed cases overall.

There are no other active cases in the Red Deer area.

“While we continue to test widely and identify some new cases daily, the spread of the virus remains relatively stable. In fact, it is likely that Albertans will soon no longer need such regular updates from me,” says Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health. “This is because the onus is increasingly on all Albertans to protect each other.”

As we progress into the summer, Dr. Hinshaw is asking people that, when their friends and family are hosting gatherings, to ensure they are doing so with proper health and safety protocols in place.
