Two city schools add colour with Literacy on the Move
Holy Family School, St. Teresa of Avila School and Maryview School are participating in Literacy on the Move this month, where lawn signs will be displayed around the schools with the story “As Big as the Sky, As Tall as the Trees by Leah Yardley.”
With summer weather along the way, students and their families will be invited to walk around the school and read the story! This initiative is in partnership with Ever Active Schools.
“We were excited about the idea of offering this ‘moving story’ to our students and their families. It is a great opportunity for our students any time we can combine literacy with physical activity. The story, ‘As Big as the Sky, As Tall as the Trees’ is a beautiful story about being in nature and trying to make your body move in rhythm with the natural world. We also valued the fact that this story brings in the First Nations, Métis, Inuit perspective. We hope our students and their families participate in this activity and spend some family time in nature,” said Teacher, Jackie Weddell at Holy Family School.
