Red Deerians can share stories with new online archives tool

Red Deerians are invited to share their digital records with the Red Deer & District Archives via a new online donation tool, launching in time for International Archives Week, June 8-14, 2020.

International Archives Week highlights the integral role that Archives plays in capturing and preserving historic events and experiences, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

This online donation tool allows the Archives to acquire records that will help future generations understand this event.

“Every Red Deerian has a story that contributes to the community’s experience of the pandemic,” said Darren Kuz, Information Management Supervisor. “We want to collect as many records as we can, to help future generations look back to this time to see how our region was impacted.”

Records such as photos, journals, written correspondence, maps, videos, sound recordings, podcasts, scrapbooks, and works of art provide valuable insight into the past and help us understand our history. Donated records may be related to COVID-19, but this is not a requirement for submissions.
