Ponoka launching Traffic Safety Pilot Program
The Town of Ponoka is launching a new traffic calming pilot project set to begin on 46 Street, south of Highway 53.
The purpose of the pilot project is to encourage motorists to slow down to improve safety for children and other pedestrians crossing the road to access Rotary Park and the Ponoka Golf Course.
‘This is a busy roadway in Ponoka because it provides access from Highway 53 to the golf course and the Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury. It’s also quite a wide roadway which contributes to an environment for higher traffic speeds than the posted limit,” explained Tim Schmidt, General Manager of Planning and Infrastructure for the Town of the Ponoka. “With a residential area on the west side of the road and a park and golf course on the east side, residents have been reaching out to the Town and voicing concerns about pedestrian safety,” he said.
Details are available at the Town of Ponoka website.
