Rebels surprise Red Deer family to brighten the mood

Jun 8, 2020 | 5:00 PM

The Red Deer Rebels were back out in the community on Monday for the first time since COVID-19 essentially put a halt public acts on volunteerism.

With the help of Save-On-Foods, Rebels forward Josh Tarzwell and mascot Wooly Bully delivered some team swag and a few bonus groceries to a loyal shopper.

“Its nice to get out and do something in the community, and get everybody feeling a little better maybe. I’ve just been shooting pucks and trying to work out so it’s nice to talk to people again,” says Tarzwell, who is from Red Deer.

“People come out and support us every night so we need to support them too. It’s nice to see the faces of the people cheering us on, and it’s not just a publicity thing. It actually feels good to help and give back to people.”

Tarzwell delivered team-signed sticks and autographed the sticks of neighbours while on site at the home in Clearview.

“They haven’t been able to do a whole lot of community stuff, like they normally do,” says Ernie Cordonier, Save-On north Red Deer manager. “That means we can’t have the hot dog sales or the car washes with them. This allows us to bring little bit of light and laughter to a loyal family, and give some exposure to the Rebels.”
