Alberta Golf championships to tee off with new protocols in place

Jun 4, 2020 | 2:18 PM

Alberta Golf has announced that it’s 2020 championship events will go ahead using new Covid-19 safety protocols.

Alberta Golf says the decision was made after thoughtful consultation with courses, competitors and volunteers across the province.

“Competitors will experience the same quality they have come to expect from Alberta Golf Championships while remaining safe onsite from the time they register to final scoring.”

COVID-19 safety protocols for Alberta Golf championship events will include:

– Onsite access for all competitions will be limited to players only, no caddies or spectators will be allowed

– Drivers will have access to the property for 15 minutes if dropping off players

– All players will be required to sign and return a waiver and all new local rules and Covid-19 protocols will be made available on the BlueGolf registration pages.

“Alberta Golf has spent a considerable amount of time in making this decision, focusing first and foremost on the desire and capacity of all host facilities as well as the overall player experience.”

Also of note, major championships will be contested over 54 holes as opposed to 72 in a bid to alleviate some of the host club resource requirements and player travel and accommodation expenses.

The championship season kicks off Tuesday, June 23 with the Alberta Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Coyote Creek Golf & RV Resort in Sundre. Red Deer’s River Bend Gold Club will host the 2020 Alberta U17, U15 & U13 Championship on Aug. 18-19.

The McLennan Ross Alberta Junior Tour starts July 2 at Innisfail Golf Club.
