Heavy rains force Market on Main back to Main St.

On May 12, Rocky Mountain House Town Council decided that they would be going ahead with Market on Main, but would have it at the Oval Track on Curtis Field, heavy rains last week have forced administration to change that location.

Market on Main will once again be located on Main Street in Rocky.

Economic Development Officer Jeff Hartling and Director of Planning and Community Development Dean Schweder have decided that if such heavy rains were to take place during Market on Main starting June 25, foot traffic and vehicles could severely damage the track.

The Oval Track was initially chosen due to its ability to more easily comply with social distancing as per Alberta Health Services (AHS) with its fence and the ease of one way traffic.

The new course of action will be to have the once a week event continue where it has in previous years, while still adhering to AHS guidelines.

This year vendors will line up back to back on the street facing outwards toward the sidewalks on both sides of the street, while visitors follow one way traffic visiting stalls.

Shoppers will begin at the top of Main Street near 52 Avenue beginning on the west side heading down, they then will be turned around by staff at 50 Avenue to go back up the opposite side of the street to where they began.

Staff will be located at all entry points into the event to direct visitors to where they can begin to ensure that safe numbers and one way entry is maintained to keep with AHS concerns.

A public health inspector will be used to determine the appropriate amount and flow of shoppers Rocky can have for safe social distancing.

All food trucks and washrooms for the event will be located in the parking lot of the Brick where visitors will both start and finish Market on Main.
