Red Deerians reminded that utility deferrals are coming to an end

The City of Red Deer is reminding residents that the 90-day deferral of utility payments ends June 15.

Starting June 19, there will be a 1.5 per cent penalty added to outstanding balances.

The deferral period was introduced this spring in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is being lifted, the City states in a release, to avoid additional pressure on the tax base which would result in rate increases during the years to come.

“Recognizing that many citizens in Red Deer may be experiencing significant economic impacts stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, flexible payment plans are available for customers experiencing difficulties paying the full balance,” the release adds.
